Adam Umak is an English/Language Arts teacher living and working in Frederick County Maryland. He is a committed teacher leader, public education advocate, and active member of the community. As an experienced educator, Adam enjoys working with students to achieve their individual reading, writing, and academic goals. His focus includes instruction, curriculum development, classroom management, and community outreach. Adam serves on the Board of Directors for Frederick County Teachers Association and is a member of the local Parent Teacher Association, The National Council of Teachers of English, Maryland State Education Association, and the National Education Association.

Adam serves as a Board Member of Rochdale Initiatives, an organization that seeks to impact areas including the environment, agriculture, education, and arts/entertainment while promoting quality economic growth in Frederick County. This approach is guided by a deep commitment to a future based on sustainability, local resilience, wise resource stewardship, community engagement, and shared prosperity.

Adam also works as a teacher consultant and freelance writer. He is the author of Folks - Book One: History Repeats Itself (2012), Tax Returns (2013), and Positive Disintegration (2016). Creating quality young-adult fiction with an independent spirit and voice is his passion. He publishes his work as a member of The DC Conspiracy, a collective of comic creators, writers, artists, and editors based in the Washington, D.C. region. Adam's books, writing, and expertise have been featured in The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The Frederick News-Post, Find It! Frederick, Comic Geek Speak, Comics Now! Magazine, Envision Frederick, and Frederick Magazine.

In 2016, Adam was selected as a Fellow for the inaugural class of New Leaders Council - Maryland. His commitment to community building and outreach led him to be a recipient of MSEA's 150th Anniversary Community Micro-Grant.

A native of Pennsylvania, Adam is a graduate of Shippensburg University. He lives in Thurmont, Maryland with his wife. In his free time, Adam is an avid comic book reader, a podcast enthusiast, and community volunteer.
