PKD Black Box: "Episode 31 – An Interview with Animator/Artist Thomas Cook"
Wednesday, August 4, 2010

A few months back while I was searching the Internet for original comic book art, I stumbled upon Thomas Cook’s web site. I was completely blown away when I read his narrative about being an animator for a handful of my favorite cartoons from when I was a youngin’. I contacted Tom for a commission, but the conversation quickly turned to asking Tom for an interview with The Legion of Dudes Podcast about his life and career in the animation business. Well, some months passed without it getting on the recording calendar so I thought to float the idea past my friend Shawn Pryor.

Shawn is not only one of the nicest guys on the planet, but he is also a very astute and talented interviewer. He was quick to book Tom and myself on an episode of his podcast, the PKD Black Box. “This weeks show Shawn is joined by guest host Adam Umak as they share an interview with Thomas Cook, an animator and artist that has worked on some of your favorite childhood cartoons ranging from Superfriends to Ducktales. He’s worked for animation homes that range from Hanna Barbera, Ruby Spears, Disney, Filmation and so many more. Get ready for a great convo as we discuss his influences, how he got his start in the animation industry, Jack Kirby, the rise & fall of the U.S. animation studio, comics, and as much as we could fit into this episode."
